Rex Beanland

Rex was born in England and raised in Canada. He has painted, beginning with transparent watercolour, for over 30 years. He retired from teaching three years ago to pursue his art full time. He broadened his palette to include all water media: acrylic, watercolour, gouache and casein. He is also an excellent teacher of art and has helped many students discover the artist within.

My paintings are my personal reaction to the rhythms, mood, colour and shapes of the Canadian landscape. Rather than literally representing these subjects, I am interested in simplifying and expressing the essence of what excites me. For me, it's all about making a personal statement.

I am in love with colour and its power to express feelings. I enjoy finding the beauty in everyday scenes from people walking to work in the busy downtown to the passing of the seasons in nearby parks. With patience and close observation, any scene can evoke an emotional response.

I feel privileged to be able to spend my time discovering the world that is all around us and being able to express it in my art.
