Ines Oppenhuizen was born in Puerto Cabello, Venezuela, in 1928 and currently resides in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
Ines' fascination with art began at a very early age, when her artistic ability in drawing and painting first came to light. Her first formal lessons were under the Dutch teacher and painter, Jan van Bergeyck, in Curacao, Netherlands Antilles. Later, she studied at the world renowned Art Student League (1970) in New York City. Her style was also influenced by the famous Venezuelan painter, Antonio L. Alcantara, as well as the great master from Uruguay, E.D. Kabregu.
Having lived in many countries throughout Central and South America and The Netherlands, her paintings have been inspired by and reflect the various cultures she observed. The medium she most enjoys is oils where she can create a very complex colour palette. Although a master of all subject matter, her true talent is portraiture. Here she is able to capture the human spirit in all its moods. Many of her works show people going about their day to day living, often in typical cultural dress.
Through the numerous exhibitions Ines has participated in, her works are a part of private art collections worldwide. Ines' knowledge and love of painting is being passed on as she teaches a select group of art students.
