Born in Brandon, Manitoba, Debby has painted in Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Ontario, enjoying the wonderful range of scenery Canada has to offer in all its natural beauty. She began painting in 1970 in "the Land of the Mighty Peace" (northern Alberta), where she took several oil painting classes and then taught some for beginners. Soon her work began to sell with consistency. In 1975, she showed at the "All Peace Arts Festival". There, the Alberta Art Foundation selected a piece of her art for their review.
Living across the country and painting as she went, experience and travel broadened and enriched her work. "An artist has the amazing opportunity to take people places they may never go, to see things they may never see!", she says. During the celebrated visit of the Giant Pandas to Calgary during the Olympics, "PANDA MOON/PANDA FUN PRINTS" were well received. Her work can be found in private and corporate collections across North American, Japan and Europe.
Three of her images were chosen for Canadian art Christmas cards. The first card, "WINTER IN THE COUNTRY", sold 50 thousand images! It is now available as a giclée in this online Gallery. Acrylics being her favourite medium, she paints with realism, yet without a "photographic" detail, leaving room for her own inspiration and emotional response to a scene. Agreeing strongly with Emerson's 'BEAUTY IN GOD'S HANDWRITING' statement, she shows much respect both for the subject she paints, and its Original Creator.
